Christmas Crack Recipe

Christmas Crack Recipe

If there’s one recipe that perfectly sums up the festive season, it’s Christmas Crack. The kind of dessert that disappears faster than the group on the post “Christmas lunch” walk. Every year like clockwork we find ourselves standing at the stove, melting butter and sugar for batch number three, whispering “this is the last one” like a festive mantra. Knowing that this will be gone as soon as the smoke clears.

Where to start

This crack begins so unassumingly. A tray lined with salty artisanal Saladas, a crunchy base waiting to become something unexpectedly fabulous.

1 sleeve Salada biscuits

(or any salted crackers)

1 cup unsalted organic butter

1 cup brown sugar

(packed)

2 cups chocolate chips

(milk or dark)

Optional Toppings

M&Ms (Crispy), Pretzels, Reeses Cups (Mini), Snickers Pods

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 180°C

Line a baking tray with baking paper.

Lay out the Saladas

in a single layer on the tray. Break pieces to fill in gaps if you want full coverage.

Make the caramel:

In a saucepan, melt 1 cup butter and 1 cup brown sugar over medium heat. Stir until it begins to bubble. Once bubbling, let it cook without stirring for 3 minutes until thick and glossy.

Pour the caramel

evenly over the crackers. Spread it out quickly before it sets.

Bake for 10 minutes.

The caramel will be bubbling and slightly darkened around the edges.

Add the chocolate:

Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Let them melt for a minute, then spread evenly with a spatula.

Top it off:

Add your additional toppings on top.

Chill:

Place in the fridge for 1–2 hours until fully set.

Crack it:

Remove from the tray and break into shards. And enjoy!
